Cupcake by Justin

Tavis sat at the bar, neon lights changing the color of his birthday cupcake, courtesy of Mr. Romo, the barkeep.

Tavis saw Romo go for the taser shotgun when the obvious tough talked into the bar, eyes on Tavis. Romo went down with a dart in his neck. Tavis whirled, placing two slugs in the chest of the sneak in the booth, courtesy of the bar’s mirror. Next, two in the tough. They both fell collapsed.

Tavis turned away, and heard the click prepared himself, heard the shot, and saw his cupcake blown to smithereens by the tough’s final act.

Bob however, failed to realize the large array of surveillance cameras on the cruise ship. The thermal cameras have algorithms and sensors that can tell the difference between a falling person, a chair, or an ice sculpture a drunken passenger has tossed overboard. As soon as Barbie tumbled over the railing after his push, her fall was instantly detected by cameras and alarms were sounded. At the same time, the security woman checked the cameras pointed at the deck where Barbie fell, and saw the devilish deed Bob had done. She stored the timestamp and emailed the ships security chief.

Justin – Nanobots

The vials of nanobots intended for a contained science lab ended up at a pasta factory. The overzealous IT student working at the factory through school thought they were for cleaning and he programmed them to clean up food waste. Instead they spread over the planet, destroying food everywhere.

Still slaves to their programming however, they were reprogrammed to reconstitute raw materials into edible, noodly substances, inadvertently solving world hunger.

Unfortunately it didn’t taste good, until a culinary student programming to pay his way through school reprogrammed some of the bots to create flavor, and Greygu pasta sauce was invented.

Justin – Storm

I recently got an Android tablet, and put the same Star Trek communications sound on them to play when I get a message. When it goes off once, it’s OK, but when the phone and tablet go, it’s kind of annoying. When I get several messages in succession, both devices make a storm of notifications! Oh the horror. Hastags first world problems, nerd world problems. But turning the sound on and off on whichever device I’m using the most at the moment is annoying. My solution? I made custom ringtones that when they play at the same time, are melodious!

I don’t know who Adam Jensen is, but he’s in the crashed VTOL plane we’re pouring bullets into. Orders from the big boss. Saw a picture of him, some bearded guy with sunglasses, augmented. They said he is extremely dangerous, so we aren’t taking any chances.

Wait, where are Harry, Charlie? Gotta reload. Going to cover every inch with holes. Wait, where is everyone else? Who’s tapping on my … I see a goatee, a glint of light off his sunglasses, and a fist. World’s gone sideways … he just jumped down there, pulling someone from the plane … he could’ve kill me …

Justin’s Sleepwalk

575253

My wife always said that I sleepwalk, but I didn’t believe her… until now.
While on vacation in Turkey recently, I pushed a woman over a bridge while sleepwalking.
My lawyer tried to get me out of it, unsuccessfully.
I was sentenced to thirty-five years in a prison on the outskirts of Istanbul for my crime.
I don’t sleepwalk anymore. Hell, I barely sleep. I live my days in constant fear that my cellmate, Big Willy, will make me bend over for another “special moment.” I wish I were dead.
Why couldn’t I have just sleepwalked off of that bridge?

Justin’s story didn’t stick to his email when he sent it in for the Challenge. I was too lazy to re-edit the Challenge to add it in, so here it is in all of its glory.
Justin is now eligible for the magnets and the glory of selecting the topic should he win.
